#32: The Mystery of the Leatherman
Where? New York
When? The late 1800s
In the latter half of the 19th century, an intriguing figure known as the Leatherman roamed Westchester and Putnam Counties, shrouded in mystery. Clad entirely in leather, this solitary soul defied the norms of the time by not seeking employment but gratefully accepting meals from kind-hearted families, promising an annual return.
Unlike any ordinary wanderer, his preferred abodes were the caves he found along his journey. His lifeless body was discovered in 1889 within a cave on the Dell family farm in Briarcliff Manor, leaving many questions unanswered about his true identity and the reasons behind his endless wandering.
