There’s no denying the US is a unique place, and I don’t just mean it because we’re good at sending people to the moon and inventing new flavors of Doritos. We have customs and attitudes that seem totally normal to us, and it’s not until someone from outside points them out that we notice many of them. Want to see what I mean? We’ve gathered examples from around the web of things that are acceptable in the United States but seem crazy to other people. Check them out and see if you agree.
#1: Card Conundrum
If you’re an American who dines out a lot, the process of paying with a credit card probably feels really normal to you: the waiter brings you a bill, you give him your credit card, and he takes it away, uses it to pay for your meal, and then brings it back safe and sound. Easy peasy, right?
But this isn’t the norm everywhere, and some people might be horrified at the thought of giving their card to a stranger, letting them take it out of sight and hoping for the best. And to be fair, it has happened before that unscrupulous servers use this access to steal credit card numbers. Fortunately, it’s extremely rare.
