The Power of Ebony Spice
The humble black pepper, often overlooked, is a culinary secret waiting to be unveiled. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not a spice, but rather belongs to the fruit family. This is owing to the fact that black peppercorns begin their journey as minute grapes. Subsequently, they undergo a transformation process where they are dried by farmers, metamorphosing into the familiar black peppercorns we cherish in our kitchens.
Much like the transformative nature of grapes, black peppercorns too, share multicolored stages of maturity. Upon picking, the verdant peppercorns evolve into the familiar black pepper we know. Conversely, those of a darker green hue yield white pepper. Surprisingly, these distinct peppercorns, despite their differences, originate from the very same plant!
