Excuse me turkey
Every single year a lot of turkeys are killed so that we can all enjoy thanksgiving. We don’t really think about their mass slaughter when we are enjoying a tasty meal, but it does happen. The president tries to bring awareness to this fact and pardons a turkey every year.
President George H.W. Bush was the first one to make this mandatory back in 1989, and later his own son would follow the pardoning. Now everyone does it and nobody complains, not even the turkey, who gets to live out its life on a farm after. It is spared from the slaughter.
