Then And Now – “How The World Has So Many Faces”

February 23, 2012 by Jade Parker

We all cringe at a devastating disaster story, what exactly does it tell us about the world we live in? And what does it tell us about ourselves as human beings? Hearing a story does not quite drive the effects of what happened across to your audience. Pictures on the other hand are said to “speak a thousand words” and “seeing is believing”. Pictures put a mental picture of the catastrophe through your eyes, “windows to your soul”. This invokes a feeling through the pictures, so you may get to experience something through, your own eyes, which is actually through the eyes of someone else. We compiled a few before and after, devastating disasters’; natural and man-made’. These have definitely left an impression on the land, everyone affected, and through the eyes of the photographer. And hopefully, you feel something while browsing. These photos are courtesy of (re. photos)

Portuguese Landscape After A Wildfire

Wildfires are intense for everything that gets affected, the animals, the luscious Flora and Fauna, and the land. It is the vulnerable that usually get caught up in the frenzy of the fires. The worse that happens is the immobile things like, the trees and land that get burned to ashes. Imagine being present and feeling everything with your senses alert. Don’t you think it would be horrible?

It is clear that the natural environment got the most burned during this above wildfire, looking at how almost all the lush greenery is gone, and the place looks barren. However, nature is amazing, it self-regenerates and will grow back, it just takes time. The landscape will of course not look the same as it used to, tragic.
