Capsule hotels
Here’s something you’ve probably seen before: capsule hotels. They are exactly what they sound like—tiny capsules that are designed for a single person. They’re just wide enough that the guest can roll around in their sleep. This type of hotel room was invented to make the most use out of the limited real estate businesses own in Tokyo.

In terms of cost, they can be pretty expensive. Some of the classier capsule hotels cost up to ¥5,000, which is about the same as US$42. If you need to use the restroom, you have to pop out of your capsule and use the shared bathroom usually found at the end of the corridor.
