Dubai
The city of Dubai, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, had modest beginnings. From a small and basic farming and fishing hamlet, it evolved into a concrete, metal, and glass behemoth of enormous skyscrapers. The city is a popular destination due to its numerous five-star hotels as well as the world’s tallest structure, Burj Khalifa.
However, it’s mostly just a visual spectacle. The city’s infrastructure and facilities are largely empty and lifeless, with few exceptions. When so many of the city’s attractions are shopping malls with the same overpriced luxury shops in all of them, it feels soulless and uninteresting below the surface.
