War Is Illegal
You might find it amusing, but it’s no laughing matter. Japan takes this issue extremely seriously, and it has been a subject of national debate for decades. Following the country’s surrender in World War II, Japan adopted a new constitution explicitly stating that the nation cannot maintain any form of army, navy, or air forces.
What Japan can do, and indeed does, is maintain the Japan Self-Defense Forces. These forces encompass ground, air, and sea components but are technically considered part of the national police. In essence, Japan renounced its right to engage in war, making war technically illegal and unconstitutional.
