Exposing Thighs Is Illegal
Fancy spending 29 days in a Japanese jail? Well, here’s an easy way – just stand on a bustling street and casually let passersby see your thighs. Surprisingly, according to the 1948 Light Crimes Act, inadvertently exposing your thighs in public is illegal in Japan. On a more sensible note, flashing your behind is also prohibited. The penalty for these offenses can go up to 29 days in jail, but no need to worry too much.
Enforcement of this law is infrequent, and mini-skirts are a common sight – as you may well be aware if you’ve visited one of Japan’s maid cafés.
