#10: Maurice Hilleman
Every time I read about one more of these unsung heroes, I feel a little pang of guilt that I wasn’t previously aware of their contributions. Am I partially responsible for the erasure of these characters from history? I will at least say in my defense here that I do know very few vaccinologists anyway.
Even if I did, over forty vaccines under your belt seems like a pretty extraordinary sum. Maurice Hilleman is clearly a person worthier of far more recognition than he currently has. This is a guy who was caught reading Darwin’s “Origin of the Species” in Church when he was in the eighth grade.
