#40: Jocelyn Bell Burnell
We tend to think of them as a privileged class, but PhD students really are one of the more exploited groups in our societies. They work just as hard as qualified Doctors or Professors, yet they receive no pay, and often, their work is credited to their supervisors and not themselves.
In the case of Jocelyn Bell Burnell, it is all the more annoying as the supervisor who would eventually take the credit for her work initially dismissed it. Oh, by the way, a pulsar is a collapsed star core that emits electromagnetic radiation. I’m sure you completely understand what it is now.
