#28: Israel Bissell
We haven’t stopped to appreciate the quality of the names here in a while, so please allow me to take a moment and say that we have had some absolutely brilliant names. Tyco Brahe was no exception to this rule, and neither is Israel Bissell. So why has history forgotten his heroism?
It seems the main reason everyone knows about Paul Revere and not about Israel Bissell is because of the renowned poem about Revere’s ride, and even that might be a matter of chance. One Syracuse University professor, Robert Thompson, puts it down to Paul Revere being easier to rhyme with.
