Relationships can be tricky; sometimes, things don’t go according to plan. However, if you’re in North Carolina, you might have a legal remedy: the “alienation of affections” tort action. This legal action allows a person to sue someone they believe has wrongfully caused the breakdown of their marriage or relationship. 

It might sound like something out of a soap opera. Yet, apparently, it’s a legal option that some people take advantage of. Apparently, around 200 “alienation of affections” cases are filed in North Carolina each year. However, I’ll stick to talking things out with my significant other rather than suing their alleged paramour!
