While some languages put the money sign after the amount, English is not one of them. There’s nothing wrong with doing it that way, but it looks weird when it’s the other way around! Especially in the US (where putting it first is always the correct way), using the sign correctly ensures clarity and consistency, preventing confusion and maintaining uniformity in financial documents.
There’s a logical reason for the dollar sign to come before the number, too. Because we read from left to right, our brains process the information surrounding the number that comes after the symbol more easily. Whether you’re writing a check, listing prices, or discussing finances, there’s only one correct spot for the dollar sign.
