Solo Flights
Following a whirlwind of relocations, the Armstrong family, in 1944, found themselves settling back in the very place where their journey had begun, Wapakoneta. It was in this familiar town that Armstrong took his first steps into adulthood at Blume High School.
Not content with terrestrial pursuits alone, he embarked on flying lessons that defied his age, taking to the skies solo at the astonishingly tender age of 16. What’s truly remarkable is that he hadn’t even acquired his driver’s license at that point! And, as if his aviation exploits weren’t impressive enough, he also managed to carve out time to achieve the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout.
