50 Bizarre and Interesting Things People Found in Their Backyards

December 24, 2015 by Veronica Phillips

Who doesn’t love a good treasure hunt? While most of us have to leave our homes to find something unique and interesting, these lucky few just had to look in their backyards. From bones to money to buried cars, these backyard finds will make you want to roll up your sleeves, pick up a spade, and start digging your yard asap!

Bone to Pick

Ancient animals are fascinating and without their fossils, historians and scientists would not have been able to paint an accurate picture of what life was like back in the day. In 2010, a man and his two sons were picking out blackberries in their yard in Iowa when they suddenly noticed something strange. On closer inspection, they realized that there was a massive bone sticking out from the ground.

On digging they discovered more bones including parts of feet, ribs, and a four-foot femur all of which belonged to a woolly mammoth. These creatures were magnificent, roughly the size of the modern African elephants, and one of the last mammoth species to walk the earth.
