The Evolution of the Barbie Doll

June 6, 2018 by Jade Parker

When you think about things that have influenced pop culture and the world as we know it, there is almost one thing that exclusively comes to mind… The Barbie doll. Whether or not you ever found yourself wanting to own, play or even look at a Barbie doll, you know that they are one of the most famous and fabulous toys to ever be made. However, in recent years this world-famous doll has taken somewhat of a hit to her reputation due to impossible beauty standards… That is why toymaker, Mattel has attempted to produce multiple different Barbie dolls over the years in order to maintain her relevance. We have to ask the question, is there any way that the Barbie doll can make her way back to the spotlight?

Who Created the Barbie Doll?

When you think about things that have had a profound influence on the world, there are certain things that come to mind. And the Barbie doll is one of those things… It might seem odd, but even though it feels like the Barbie doll has been around forever, it was only created a little over 60 years ago by the toymakers, Mattel.

These days, Mattel is a multi-million dollar corporation that makes toys for every boy and girl all around the world. But they owe a lot of their success to the Barbie doll. The wife of the co-founder of Mattel, Ruth Handler, saw a hole in the American toy market and made it her mission, amongst a board of men to see this vision come to life.
