The thing about the Barbie doll was that as different things would happen in society, the Barbie would mirror them. Whether it was something happening in pop culture or something happening in the news, Barbie would always be there to make sure she was keeping up with relevant aspects of society.
However, there were also times when Barbie was somewhat ahead of her time… Astronaut, Neil Armstrong made it to the moon in 1969, but Barbie was already an astronaut by 1960. And she also started trying her hand at politics in 1992 as the first female president, long before any other woman in the real world had begun walking that path.
