In the famous words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “The only way to have a friend is to be one.” This is true for all friendships, but it seems extra poignant regarding female friendships. The same goes for strangers who are women, too. We all know to look out for each other, help, and defend each other when necessary – no questions asked. It’s just part of existing in the world as a woman. A recent Reddit thread asked the women of Reddit to share what they think are the unspoken rules women live by. We put together the best pieces of advice and unspoken rules shared among women across the globe. Which unspoken rules do you live by?
#1: Moms for the Win
Some women become hyper-aware of the unspoken rules of Girl Code when they become moms. Maybe the fact that they have to constantly take care of other little humans makes them so aware. Whatever the reason, moms are universally seen as more trustworthy by other women. The mom in this story was a real one and helped out our storyteller back when she was a teenager. Our storyteller was shopping at Walmart with her mom, and they decided to split up to save time.
She immediately noticed a creepy older man following her around the store and panicked. Then, she saw a woman shopping with her two kids and went to them. This mom immediately got what was going on and pretended to be her mom, too. The kind lady stayed with her until the creepy guy left and our storyteller could find her actual mom. Someone give this lady a “Mom of the Year” award.
