#31: The Opinion Rule
Sometimes, there’s a very fine line between a necessary fact and an opinion. As this person explains, telling someone they have lipstick smudged on their teeth is helpful information, while telling them they are wearing the “wrong shade of lipstick” is an opinion.

Don’t share your opinion unless someone asked for it – this is generally a good rule to live by. I remember my dad using the phrase “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all” a lot when I was growing up. This follows the same sentiment – if you have a mean, unuseful opinion on someone, it’s usually better to keep it to yourself.
