Samuel H. Reshevsky at Chess Competition, 1920
This photo is probably giving you major The Queen’s Gambit vibes, and for good reason. This 1920 photograph features child prodigy Samuel H. Reshevsky competing against several chess masters in France. Samuel was only eight years old at the time, and he defeated each and every one of them!
Samuel was more than just a child prodigy, though. He was born in Poland and went on to become an American chess grandmaster. He grew up to have a very successful career and competed in chess competitions through the 1960s. This just goes to show you should never underestimate someone based on their size or age!
