Women Reading Playboy Magazine, 1960s
Second Wave Feminism was at its peak in the United States during the 1960s. Women were questioning and pushing the boundaries of what was “acceptable” behavior for women, and a lot of the freedoms women have today are thanks to this liberation movement. This photo shows some shocking behavior from women of the time!
This photo isn’t really shocking to our modern eyes, but this group of sorority girls looking at an issue of a certain R-rated Magazine was certainly scandalous to some in the mid-sixties when this photo was taken. It’s just a small example of how women were redefining what was “appropriate” behavior at the time. More power to them!
