#18: American Soldiers in Vietnam, 1967
It’s hard to be away from home for a long time, but it’s even harder when you’re far from home and in an uncertain situation, like wartime. This image of two American soldiers resting during the Vietnam War in 1967 is heartbreaking on a lot of levels.
They’re resting on a hill in Dak To, Vietnam, and the background shows complete destruction and desolation. Despite their surroundings, these two men found comfort in a little piece of home by setting up a tiny Christmas tree. One of the soldiers even added some tinsel to his helmet.
