#7: Cultures Collide, 1968
Sometimes, you see someone walking down the street with so much confidence that you simply have to compliment their outfit. This fashionable woman probably got a lot of compliments back in her day, even from nuns! This photographer captured this meeting of two cultures back in 1968, and it speaks volumes about what was going on at the time.
In the 1960s, a lot of things were changing. Women’s rights were a big issue, and more women were entering the workforce. There was an overall sense of more freedom enjoyed by young women, which you can see by this lady’s fashionable outfit and the way she carries herself. Some people could say the nuns represent being “old-fashioned,” but they look like they’re pretty friendly and supportive of this young lady.
