#21: The Donut Dollies in Vietnam, 1960s-1970s
The Donut Dollies are a piece of U.S. war history that not many people know about. “Donut Dollies” was the nickname given to groups of women who would deliver coffee, donuts, newspapers, and other snacks to soldiers on the front lines of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
The American Red Cross began deploying helicopters during WWII to deliver donuts and other luxuries to soldiers, and women stepped up to run these missions. The nickname “Donut Dolly” stuck, and these women brought some small comforts to the people out there fighting for their country.
