#30: Red Cross Nurses Taking a Break, 1939
Nurses are some of the hardest-working people we know, and the same can be said for nurses who worked on the frontlines of the World Wars. Many women went to work during WWII and became registered nurses to help out the war effort. The Red Cross Nursing Service enrolled over 200,000 nurses between 1939 and 1946!
More than half of those women were certified in the military, and their contributions to the effort are immeasurable. All that’s to say that nurses deserve some valuable time to themselves whenever they get a chance! These two women are having a moment of pure joy playing a game of soccer (or football for our international readers). It’s a wonderful and rare moment captured on film.
