To identify room numbers in case of fire
Here’s something you might not see every day, especially if you don’t regularly book hotel rooms in a Westin in New England. In this particular hotel, each room had two signs that showed the same room number—one on top where it usually is and another at the bottom. What’s going on in Westin?

The lower door number is for emergencies. In the event of fires, smoke will float up and block a firefighter’s view of the upper room number sign. If they need to rescue anybody stranded in a certain room, they can use the lower sign as a reference.
