Hydraulic ram
We don’t know what this guy was doing 100 feet underground, but we commend him for his courage. While trekking through the belly of the Earth, he encountered a rusted object that stood 2 feet tall, had electrical wire, and seemingly served no purpose. That’s when he decided to ask Reddit.
Immediately, people were able to identify what it was. This was a hydraulic ram (hydram for short), which is used to extract underground water. Miners probably used it when they needed to cool down their machines or to drink. Is unfiltered groundwater safe to drink?
