Hospitals Then and Now
In the last 100 years hospitals have undergone major and significant changes. These changes are mostly in response to the ever increasing power of technology and science available. The more we’ve learned about healthcare, the more we have been able to design and improve hospital settings. Hospitals originally featured comfortable furniture, beds, and even luxurious looking interiors.
Today, however, a clean and sterile environment is the standard for keeping patients safe and therefore modern hospitals are often more sparse and feature wipeable furniture. A hospital in the early 1900s might look more comfortable, but the chances of being safe and well-taken care of are much better in one of today’s hospitals.
