Technology has developed at nearly warp speed over the past 100 years. A person using anything from a car to household items to even a fan probably wouldn’t recognize those same items in use today. The last one hundred years has seen incredible developments that have greatly impacted our daily lives. Just consider how much medical science has changed how hospitals look and function- or how the invention of WiFi has transformed the baby monitor.

Most items have changed for the better. Today we can make things more efficiently and safely- and many items on this list have been refined and streamlined into the best products possible. Within that transformation, however, is the inevitable loss of craftsmanship and the handmade touch. Are you wondering how much has changed? Be prepared to be surprised, take a look at these everyday items and how much they’ve evolved over the last one hundred years.
The Playground
Playgrounds of the 1900s were intense, to say the least. They were major pieces of metal connecting, and were built quite high. Just look at this playground in the photograph. There is not much in terms of safety for the children standing on the top, and the entire aesthetic is on the ominous side.

Not sure too many parents would want their kids playing on one of these today! Modern playgrounds are significantly more safe for kids and use materials like plastic and rubber. They are also more colorful to appeal more to kids and are certainly lower to the ground. Question is- would you be brave enough to play on a playground from a century ago?
