#9: Schwing!
Wayne’s World started off as a Saturday Night Live comedy skit, but it quickly became a staple of pop culture. When Penelope Spheeris was hired to direct a major motion picture based on the short skit, no one was expecting it to blow up. In fact, the budget was so small that all the filmmaking equipment was rented!

Because the equipment needed to be returned on a certain date, Wayne’s World was filmed in just one month. That is a wildly fast turnaround time for a movie, and people weren’t expecting too much out of the film. Wayne’s World cost $20 million to produce, but it remains the highest-grossing movie based on an SNL skit.
