First of all, I’m quite skeptical that this is an actual house. Second of all, only nefarious masterminds live in places like this in the movies! Imagine my surprise when I found out this house is in Saijo, Hiroshima, and is occupied by a family of five who wanted to maximize the square footage available on the corner lot while maintaining privacy.

The interior is nothing like the exterior of the house; it’s simply gorgeous, with hardwood floors and wide unimposing stairs. From the inside, it’s light and airy and not nearly as oppressive as it appears. The house was designed by Makoto Tanijiri, the owner of Suppose Design, and is based upon the historic layout of pit dwellings from 200 A.D.
