The difference between the USA and the UK extends far beyond just language; there’s also a major difference in how people behave. Outgoing, gregarious, and downright chipper behavior, especially to strangers, is much more acceptable and even expected in the USA than it is in the UK.
And one place that this becomes very apparent is in customer service, which can seem overly cheerful and eager to please. Personally, I’m baffled that Brits often seem to feel a little superior for being standoffish, but different strokes different folks, I guess.
