Monty Python and the Holy Grail
It would be unfathomable to create a list of low-budget successes without mentioning Monty Python and the Holy Grail. This British comedy movie followed the classic Monty Python group in their search for the legendary Holy Grail with hysterical results.
At the start, the group only had about $400,000 to make the movie, but in the end, it managed to rake in over $5 million at the box office. One way the filmmakers cut costs during production was to replace the horses with—get this—coconuts. If you’ve never seen the movie, you should watch it for the horse-coconuts alone.
