#20: An American Household
Another photo that could honestly rack up a few awards just for it’s composition, without any historical context, or even just for every one of this family’s facial expressions. What we’re looking at here is a “typical American family” in 1950s Detroit, Michigan – complete with idyllic house and a modern vehicle.
While a lot of commenters on this photo may feel that it can’t exactly be called a typical family, it certainly represents a kind of lifestyle that seems like a distant memory to today’s United States. While houses like this still exist, the middle class as we knew it then is long gone.
