As a hopeless Disney fan,this photo makes me think of one particular scene in one particular period movie – and if you know you know. It’s the bank scene from Mary Poppins, where all the bankers try to convince George the best way to spend his “tuppence” is to invest it in the bank.

Sorry for that and thank you for indulging me. Back to business: this photo depicts John D. Rockefeller himself giving a five cent coin to a young child in 1929. I can’t tell you exactly why he did so, or why that was the precise sum, but it’s certainly an interesting shot.
