#35: Dara Torres: Age is Just a Number
Dara Torres is an accomplished American swimmer and Olympic medalist. She stands out as having the longest successful swim career and has competed in five different Olympic Games. She holds the record as the first American swimmer to represent her country in that many Games, and her career is unique.
Torres came back to swimming professionally after a seven-year retirement and stands out as the oldest swimmer in history to win an Olympic medal. At the age of 41, she competed in the 2008 Games and beat out many competitors who were much younger than her. She went home with three silvers that year! Torres has commented on her later resurgence, saying that she wanted to show other athletes that age is just a number if your mind and body are still in the game.
