#34: That’s a Fact
A lot of words change meaning over time. For instance, did you know that “silly” used to mean “holy”? “Nice” used to mean “meticulous or precise,” a “clue” was a ball of yarn, and “awful” has made a complete 180: it used to mean “full of awe,” or what we might now call “awesome.”
“Factoid” is another such word. While it used to specifically mean a piece of information that wasn’t true, that extra nuance has been lost over time. So if someone asks if you want to hear a factoid, make sure you know which kind of factoid it is before you believe it.
