#30: A Wild Comparison
Some ads are successful because they make wild claims that are so out of this world, they have to be noticed. This Father’s Day ad for Crown Royal Canadian Whisky gets your attention because of its overly confident claim. It shows a timeline with a bunch of Crown Royal bottles wrapped up as gifts for each year.
Except for 1986. That year, there’s a picture of a boat. At the bottom, the ad reads, “Remember that one disappointing Father’s Day?” That’s right. Crown Royal is making the bold claim that their whisky is better than a brand new boat. The nerve! Even if this logically doesn’t make sense, it’s sure memorable.
