It’s Not Polite to Stare
You’ve undoubtedly heard the saying, “Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to stare?” The answer is that staring is considered impolite all over the world. On purpose, some people may dress extravagantly for extra attention. However, you can usually tell them apart from the rest. While looking may be frightening at first, it is in South Korea a serious crime.
South Koreans are a conservative and modest lot. They find it intrusive to be stared at for long periods. Taking photographs of people without asking is not polite in any country, but especially in South Korea, where you may be fined or even imprisoned.
