“No Dogs or Golf”: Odd Rules That Raise Too Many Questions

You’ve probably encountered some strangely translated signs if you’ve ever traveled abroad. Not every rule is easy to translate, so there are bound to be some odd and hilarious mistranslations into English every now and again. This airport sign was a victim of mistranslation, and it gives oddly specific yet vague directions. 

The sign was translated to “eating carpet strictly prohibited,” which is a cause for concern. Did someone literally eat a piece of the airport carpet? Probably not. The original rule most likely informed people that eating ON the carpet was strictly prohibited. That makes much more sense. Plus, no one in the background of this photo is eating. Accurate inference achieved.
