Babe Ruth – 1914 Baltimore News
Babe Ruth is one of the most recognized names in America, even among non-baseball fans. Except for a few exceptions (including his real name), however, it will be his diminutive moniker “Babe” that lives on forever. He has also been called “The Bambino,” “The Sultan of Swat,” “Jidge,” and “The Colossus of Clout.”
Babe Ruth was a very versatile player, pitching and batting during his career. In 1916, he held the lowest ERA as a Pitcher. In 1924, he won the Batting Title and had the lowest ERA of All-Time. Despite being graded 2, the 1914 rookie card sold for $575,000 because it is considered to be one of just ten copies in existence.
