First Retirement
From 1990 to 1993, it seemed like Michael Jordan was on top of the world. He earned title after title, dominated the international stage, and became known as one of the greatest basketball players in history after just eight years in the NBA. However, on July 23, 1993, Michael’s world turned upside-down.
He received news that his loving father, James Jordan, was dead. On his way home from a funeral, James pulled over to the side of the road to take a nap when he was shot. Nobody discovered the body for 11 days. On October 6, 1993, only one day into training camp, MJ surprised the world when he announced his retirement. He claimed he lost all motivation to play when he was at the height of his career.
