Lou Gehrig – 1933 Goudey #160
Lou Gehrig (Henry Louis Gehrig) is still one of history’s most famous baseball figures. Between 1923 and 1939, the first baseman played seventeen consecutive seasons for the New York Yankees. Gherig was selected to the All-Star team seven times, won a single Triple Crown, and received two MVP awards (and that’s just some of his accolades).
Gehrig has two cards in this set, each with the same photograph. However, because it is considered more valuable and appealing to collectors, this card, #160, is worth $300,000. It’s difficult to come by a mint condition one of these cards (and thus more expensive), which is why it’s so popular among collectors.
