This guy was evicted by his landlord and was sued for $8,000. The OP had no problem leaving the apartment since he was halfway out of the door anyway. Apparently, the landlord was suing him in order to squeeze a new stove and fridge out of him. That’s about $1,000 at most, so why the other $7,000?
In that state, the only way a landlord could evict someone was if they met in person. The $7,000 would cover the airfare for the landlord to visit and leave. After meeting in court, the judge awarded the OP his security deposit verbally tore the landlord to shreds.
