#13: D’Lites
D’Lites of America was a U.S. fast food chain that originated in 1978 in Norcross, Georgia. It had a pretty short run in the restaurant industry, as the health-conscious chain went defunct in 1987.
D’Lites was unique among fast food joints because it featured low-calorie options, lean beef, low-fat cheese, and high-fiber buns. Though special at the time, other fast food chains, such as Burger King, McDonald’s, and Wendy’s, began to catch on and offer healthier options in the early ‘80s. This stiff competition put D’Lites out of business.
