#15: Googies Coffee Shop
The adorably-named Googies coffee shop was a tiny restaurant on Sunset Boulevard, next to L.A.’s famous Schwab’s Pharmacy. It was designed in the late 1940s by John Lautner, and its design was so renowned that it started its architectural trend named “Googie architecture.”

Googies has seen many celebrities over the years, including Dennis Hopper, Vampira, James Dean, Steve McQueen, Marilyn Monroe, Lee Marvin, and Lenny Bruce (who once got into a fight and was thrown through a glass window). Alas, due to financial reasons, Googies eventually shut down in 1988.
