Maria Capovilla 116
From Ecuador, Maria Capovilla was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the oldest living woman in late 2005. She was the last verified individual born in the 1880s. She passed away in August 2006 at the age of 116 years, 347 days. She was born to a rather affluent upper-class family and she attended art classes and social functions. By September 1999 she had become the first recorded supercentenarian in Ecuadorian history.
She had five children with Antonio Capovilla, an Italian military officer. Three of her children were alive during her passing. At 100 years old she had nearly passed away and luckily never had health issues until her last few months alive. Before she succumbed to sickness, she had been able to walk, read and watch tv. Fun fact – she wasn’t a fan of women courting men; not very progressive.
