Easter Eggs Waiting to Be Found in Thrillers

August 3, 2010 by Regina Clarke

WALL-E

Like many filmmakers, Pixar loves to reference their movies in their own movies, which is kinda cute. These references can sometimes be a little farfetched… and when it comes to this one, well, let’s just say that Rex deserved better. Unlike their other Easter eggs, this one of Rex is more than just a lighthearted Easter egg for their fans.

The whole thing about Easter eggs is that they’re meant to be a harmless way for fans to reconnect with previous characters in a subtle way. But Rex, you see, is a sentient toy, meaning that he is able to perceive and feel things. So when you see him tucked away amongst WALL-E’s belongings, after a while, you just feel a little sad, because it means that Rex has been alone for decades, centuries in fact without any friends or people to play with him. That just ain’t right.
