A Casual Chat
The US EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) designates that there are some questions that cannot be asked during a job interview. Questions about race, religion, citizenship, marital status, and more cannot be asked because it violates a person’s right to privacy and can lead to biased hiring. Some employers try to be sneaky about asking these illegal questions, though.
Sometimes an interviewer will ask you questions before the “official” interview gets started under the guise of casual chitchat. Be aware that if an interviewer asks you anything about your private life, like if you have a partner, are pregnant, etc.; they may be trying to phish for information that is technically illegal to procure during the interview process.
